No Pants Day 2011

Who would have thought that the subway was the best place to see people in their underwear? I’m thinking strip clubs, Vegas, late night alleys…. As great of a thing as this sounds, imagine a hairy dude with nut huggers!!! Eww gross!! Now imagine a beautiful woman in her underwear!!! Amazing! Awesome!

“No Pants day” commenced on January 9th 2011, and it involved the group, “Improv Everywhere” gathering 100′s of people and had then take off their pants and roam NYC…As weird as this sounds, it was quite awesome. On a cold, windy day, it was great to see people joking around, laughing, taking pictures, and pretty much acting crazy, as in “what are you on, and where can I get some.”

Was the fuel of this event some amazing humanitarian, eco-friendly stand or protest of some sort…? Nay! Just an event for people to mingle, for them to be seen and possible viral youtube videos, and of course to see and show off your best panties! The best part about the event is strap hangers reactions… “I’m gonna show this to my work… he’s got the speedo ones… damn girl, I ain’t gonna stop you… why is he taking off his pants!!!”

KID CUDI IN SOHO

As the weather is getting colder and colder… the typical lines are starting to form and form and get longer and longer. This line in particular was for a Kid Cudi signing at Bathing Ape. Apparently, you need to get a raffle ticket or something… Even though I couldn’t see “the kid” it was exciting to SOHO in a frenzy!!! Oh btw, his new CD is amazing!

Oh, and for those who don’t know who he is… he’s a revolutionary american rapper…. known for “Day N Night,” Domingo in How to Make it in America…

The BOMB!

Wouldn’t it be nice to go to a Deli and get exactly what you want? But lets be honest, who actually knows what they are in the mood for? Unless you’re a regular, and as New York tradition clearly states, if you’re not a “regular” at some Deli/Bodega, then you’re a foreigner…a tourist, and might as well grab a bite in Times Square. So… where do you go? How do you become a “New Yorker”….

First make the trek to Astoria, Queens, get off at the last stop and go to Sal and Kris’ Deli…. and among the colorful names of great sandwiches, go for “The Bomb!” It’s already clear that you don’t know what you want, but if you get “The Bomb” you’ll find yourself with over a foot-long sandwich with every single type of meat in the store… How can you go wrong! The challenge then becomes eating in style.. that’s a whole different story, but start with getting the right sandwich!

I can always appreciate a day or so a year of shopping, but the idea of hanging around stores and malls for fun is not the way I like to spend my day. Many boyfriends feel the same, so when I showed up at Topshop this past Friday and noticed my fellow men in the shoe section I quickly realized they were there only for the seats.

Summer’s tale

The heat is the only problem in New York City during the summer. There’s never a shortage of free concerts, parades about Mermaids, beaches, shopping, and renting overpriced bikes in Central Park, but who can stand being outside while the humidity nearly resembles the 80-90 degree temperature?! Minus the orange tanned obsessed ones…

One solution that stores have been coming up with for quite a while is to open their doors so their AC can be felt by those on walking on the streets. This is a great idea, and just like in the winter, it’s nice to get away from the freezing weather or in summer’s case the humid jungle like battle. There’s one slight problem; stores are getting fines for having their doors open! Who would of thought!

Those energy laws are brutal!!! Over $200 a pop for an open door!

While some choose to open their doors, pass out samples, even dress their worst employee up as some hybrid animal (hybrid animals truly exist – ligers, grolars and wolphins oh my!!!), others put out nice displays, such as signs for dirt cheap beer…even stuffed animals….

Tom Hardy

No one knew who Tom Hardy was before Inception or so I’ve been told over and over again in the past few days. Who saw Star Trek Nemesis, RocknRolla and Bronson.… If you’ve seen those movies, you’ll know he is amazing! He put on 3 stone muscle for Bronson, and famously became “Hansome Bob” for RocknRolla. I find it a bit funny that he’s become “discovered” since Inception, although he’s reached another level of stardom, and his performance was incredible (he has to be the most suave character in the film), I just wish people knew about him before…. But as someone once told me… “You watch the weirdest movies ever!”

It takes ________ to become a New Yorker….

I’ve heard 5 years, 10 years, 8 years, or that you lived there longer than any other area? How about when you bump into someone and don’t say, “I’m sorry”? Or how about yelling at someone for mediocre service? Hailing a cab with ease? Ignoring homeless people? Searching for secret places? Only searching for hole-in-the-wall restaurants? Having a tailor come to your house to design your clothes? Having your clothes washed, folded and delivered by your doorman? Tipping your doorman during Christmas? Stealing a seat from the elderly? Waiting in Times Square in the freezing cold for the New Year’s ball to drop? Paying $10 for a drink at Happy Hour? Waiting in line for an hr for a red velvet cupcake? Joining a food Coop? Walking fast and looking down? $1000 for half a bedroom is cheap? Ordering your “regular?” Having hipster friends? Loving the Yankees? Calling a Beanie a “Winter Cap?” Hating Jersey people?

The funny thing about all those things is that they happen everywhere… right?

I’ll never really know what it takes to become a “New Yorker,” but here’s a few others: being known not by your name or where you’re from, but your job, judged by the subway line you take and ultimately thinking your city is the best ever…and i mean EVER!!
